Place of employment: Middelburg
Fte: 0.8 fte - 1.0 fte
Take the lead in practice-based research into smart and sustainable solutions for energy transition. At HZ University of Applied Sciences, you will have the unique opportunity to shape and drive research agenda in this knowledge domain.
Impact
The energy system in the Southwest Delta is complex and characterised by large industrial developments in a natural delta system. The proximity of water and the presence of large ports create great opportunities to make the energy system more sustainable. To accelerate this transition, we are looking for a lecturer to further develop the 'Delta Power' research group (Delta Power | HZ University of Applied Sciences).
The lectorate's research includes topics such as offshore wind energy, system integration (including the role of renewable hydrogen), marine energy and renewable heat. The global energy transition, the fact that over 60 per cent of the world's population lives in delta regions and the national importance of energy transition in Zeeland make our research agenda highly relevant. This drives our focus to work with others to develop relevant low-carbon energy technologies and to develop up-to-date knowledge and insights that are valuable to businesses, governments and citizens. Together with students and teacher-researchers, you make the research and results meaningful for education.
Your profile
You have a PhD in the field of energy transition. Based on your knowledge and experience, together with your team and partners from the regional field, you will develop a broad vision of energy transition in the South-western Delta. As a lecturer, you are the face of the research themes of the research group and ultimately responsible for the results and impact of the research projects. You lead the team of researchers in an inspiring, substantive way and are committed to their development. You are supported in this by the coordinator who manages the staff hierarchically. Finally, you are adept at acquiring research grants in the second and third flow of funds, and maintaining and expanding the network of internal and external stakeholders. You involve them both in the execution of research and in the development of new projects.
For a comprehensive description of general profile of a lecturer, please refer to:
Profile of the lecturer-Association of Lecturers
Because of your role in the region, you have an excellent command of the Dutch language and because of the international nature of the domain, you also have an excellent command of the English language.
Your team
The lecturer provides strategic leadership for the 'Delta Power' research group, one of the 17 research groups within HZ-UAS. You will set the agenda for the future, building on current research lines, including renewable offshore energy, green fuels (hydrogen), sustainable heat and grid congestion. Energy forms one of the three core themes of HZ-UAS, as well as of the Campus Zeeland partnership.
The team consists of a dozen enthusiastic researchers and has an extensive project portfolio. We strive for an inclusive team in which everyone has the opportunity to develop and take responsibility for their work. Collaboration, both within the research group and with other research groups, both internal and external to HZ University of Applied Sciences, is key.

HZ University of Applied Sciences is a valued knowledge institution in the region and beyond. As a university of applied sciences, it is the partner for practitioners in research and education. In the coming years, HZ wants to strengthen this position by focusing on impact and quality. HZ does this in a dynamic regional knowledge landscape. For example, in 2023 the research laboratory Joint Research Center Zeeland (JRCZ) was opened in Middelburg, in the same year the large-scale, multi-year projects Energy Campus and New Waves were launched and in 2024 the Delta Climate Center was officially launched. In the same year, the heat and hydrogen laboratories were opened. All of this contantly in cooperation with practitioners, knowledge partners and governments.
